Ska Radio Stations

Ska is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s, and was the precursor to both rocksteady and reggae (although "reggae" later came to be used as an umbrella term for all Jamaican styles). Ska combined elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. It is characterized by a walking bass line accented with rhythms on the upbeat. The early ska music of the '60s and '70s spawned later revivals. The first was in the UK in the '80s, giving rise to bands like Madness and the Specials. The next, known as 3rd Wave Ska, struck the US in the '90s.
